Vanderbilt University Law School “beautifully combines the easygoing, friendly culture of Nashville with the rigorous, probing academic environment of a top-tier law school.” The school’s size gives students “incredible access to administration and faculty” as well as “access to an abundance of leadership positions and academic research opportunities.” As one student puts it, “I don't think I would have gotten that—combined with the excellent quality of life in Nashville—anywhere else.” The course offerings are relevant and practical. As one student illustrates, “I've gotten to take courses teaching about quantum technology, AI, and legal process design,” and having these classes “makes me feel prepared not only for practice but also for the changing world of legal work.” The administration “is very accessible, responsive, and considerate” and helps “build common ground by promoting values like diversity, dignity, respect, and inclusion.” This is true of the classroom environment as well, where “thoughtful disagreement is always welcomed, and professors and students alike exhibit consideration and respect for all good faith discussion.” Professors here “clearly care about teaching” and “really make an effort to prepare us for legal practice.” The school’s externship program gives students “valuable legal skills,” and Vanderbilt’s strong reputation provides access to “job opportunities in geographically diverse areas.” In addition, the staff in the career services office “is very knowledgeable and oriented to help each individual student’s own goals.” The school also has a “robust alumni network” that “is one of Vandy's greatest assets.”

Students come here for the “great culture,” and the small class size helps students form strong connections. One student speaks to the school’s sense of camaraderie, saying, “It will be really difficult to graduate and leave this place…but it's encouraging to remember how close-knit this community is because we will definitely stay in touch and reconnect.” Students “go out together and host events where we invite everybody.” There are “lots of student-government-run social events and organic non-school-sponsored events.” The student body “seems genuinely happy to be here and is very inclusive,” and “the vast majority of students here are intentionally respectful, intellectually curious, and genuine friends.” If there’s anything that could be changed, students say, “just the physical building and nothing else,” and note that updating the facilities is something “the school has made efforts on.” One place that students seem to agree is great is the library, which is elegant and has seating for all different needs, including “big tables, silent spaces for individual study, and plenty of study rooms for small-group study sessions.” Overall, students at Vanderbilt are “genuinely happy to see each other succeed,” and “everyone operates under the mantra of a rising tide lifts all boats.”
